Dear Editor
On June 8, 2007 eight professional women were downtown enjoying themselves walking on Seaside Way south of Ocean Blvd. in the Pike area. They were in two groups of four each. One group was ambushed and brutally assaulted by two black men in their 20’s. Two woman were struck in the head from behind and forcibly pushed to the ground. A third was hit in the face as she came to her friends defense. The fourth woman ran to summon help. The two assailants jumped into cars that appeared to be waiting for them. The women lost the contents of their purses, including cash, ID’s and credit cards. One of the victims indicated that several hundred dollars in charges later appeared on one of her stolen credit cards. What took place sounded like a violent, coordinated, strong armed robbery.
To compound this crime is the Press Telegrams complete silence of reporting this incident to the public. Who silenced you PT? Chamber of Commerce? Downtown Developers? Who? Many incidental matters occupied your paper last week, but nowhere was this brutal attack reported! Why not?
