We recently spent an afternoon at the Cabrillo Beach tide pools– one of our favorite quick getaways. Each little pool filled with tiny hermit crabs, sea anemone and urchins provided hours of entertainment and the scenic beach was a relaxing escape from the everyday.
Cabrillo Beach is about a mile-long, gorgeous, and has something for everyone. There you can scuba dive, surf, fish, take a wind surfing lesson or just take a relaxing walk along the shore. Depending on the season, you can whale watch or watch the grunion lay their eggs on the beach under a full moon.
We also like to stop in atThe Cabrillo Marine Aquarium (my favorite aquarium) and particularly enjoy the aquatic nursery. It is well worth the $5 per adult and $1 per child suggested donation. They also offer tons of educational programs and activities. www.cabrilloaq.org
